The best RTX 3080 laptops you can find right now

ASUS ROG Zephyrus G15 ultra-thin gaming laptop

For those who want the best in a gaming laptop, those with RTX 3080 GPUs are a no-brainer. While many are quite large machines that generate a lot of heat, they are still perfectly valid mobile gaming machines. Some can even be replacements for gaming desktops.

Mobile GPUs have a snag

Before we dive in, you should know that Nvidia has made laptop GPUs much harder than they used to be. Rather than correlate the brand of the GPU (RTX 3080, 3070, 3060, etc.) with performance, they have allowed laptop manufacturers to set power limits from 60W to 130W, while still marketing it to the same performance class. This means that a laptop with a 60W GPU will perform quite differently than the same GPU with 130W. More wattage equals more performance and of course more heat, especially in these beastly machines.

Nvidia requires laptop manufacturers to disclose GPU wattages and clock speeds in product descriptions in advance. You’ll sometimes have to dig to find them, but if in doubt, check the manufacturer’s sites. Ultimately, though, the differences can add up to ~10fps, so if that’s important to you, you should definitely look for a GPU with more power. We will list wattages for each laptop in our lists.

Prices for many RTX 3080 laptops are currently too high due to various global events. That said, there are still some reasonable prices, so don’t be put off. We’ve found quite a few great RTX 3080 laptops that are reasonably priced at the time of writing.

  • The MSI GE76 Raider 17 is generally the best machine because of its Core i9 processor and 360Hz display.
  • The MSI GE66 Raider is the second most powerful on the list, with everything top-down with a 15-inch 4K display rather than a 17-inch 1080p panel.
  • The Gigabyte Aorus 15P has rich I/O, a 240Hz display and 32GB of RAM, and is reasonably priced at the time of writing.
  • The Asus ROG Strix Scar 15 has rich RGB elements, just as we’d expect from ROG. It’s also the only one on our list with a Ryzen 7 processor.
  • The Alienware M15 R6 has those signature big old cooling vents in the back that can move some serious heat, making it the coolest on our list.
  • The Razer blade 15 compromises on power, but it’s also the thinnest RTX 3080 laptop money can buy.
  • The Razer Blade Pro 17″ has more strength than the smaller sibling, while maintaining a slender figure.
  • The Mainingear Vector Pro is pretty standard, but the price has remained constant for a long time, which is valuable in itself.

The Raider 17 has a huge display and associated processing power. This RTX 3080 laptop tops the list with a Core i9-11980HK processor, giving it the most overall power. Make sure to keep your charger nearby as i9 processors are known to consume a lot of power. Speaking of power consumption, the RTX 3080 in this beast can technically go up to 155W, but only for short bursts.

Aside from that, the MSI GE76 Raider 17 offers a 1080p display with a 360Hz refresh rate for incredibly smooth visuals. 1080p may seem low to some, but you probably won’t notice it on a screen this size. It also has 32 GB of RAM and 1 TB of SSD storage. Dedicated cooling solutions for both the CPU and GPU help keep this laptop cool as well.

The younger sibling: MSI GE66 Raider

This RTX 3080 laptop is the MSI GE66 Raider, another take on the formula from above. It offers the GPU and RAM of the above laptop, with twice the storage of 2TB, versus the 1TB of the larger model. The GPU in this one runs at a maximum of 130W; technically less power on paper than the big brother, but the performance difference is probably minimal.

Asus’ Republic of Gamers lineup is hard to mention as it’s one of the most respected brands in PC gaming. This is an RTX 3080 laptop, of course, but there’s some other great stuff in there too, like the Ryzen 7 5800H processor for a few extra cores over the competition. This laptop directly adjusts the GPU wattage between 115W-130W.

The AMD Ryzen processor will delight Team Red fans, but the FHD 300Hz display may just be the star of the show for competitive gamers. This display also has a response time of 3 ms. This one is also priced on the steep side at the moment, but there’s really no such thing as a buttery smooth 300Hz display.

Best Cooling: Alienware M15 R6

Alienware, owned by Dell, releases some great machines, and they’ve come down in price over the years as well. The Alienware M15 R6 has a 15-inch QHD 240Hz display, the ideal place for PC gaming. However, the compromise here is the 105W maximum for the GPU, which is a bit on the weaker side. If you need a thin machine this is the one, but don’t expect peak performance.

Razer is back, and this time bigger. The Razer Blade Pro 17 packs all the gear from the Blade 15 above in a larger package. The 17-inch screen and chassis it holds gives you more screen space, more airflow for better cooling, and better audio with bigger speakers. You may not have heard of Mainingear if you’re a laptop gamer, but this company has been building some pretty awesome gaming desktops for a few years now. Continuing with that theme, they’ve put together a great machine that seems to be the most reasonably priced on this list. The Mainingear Vector Pro has a Core i7-11800H, 32GB of RAM and a fantastic 17-inch QHD 165Hz display. The system’s GPU runs at a maximum of 140W, again for short periods of time to maximize efficiency.

At $2,500 at the time of writing, this is the most consistent price machine on the list. According to Honey, the price hasn’t gone up or down in a while. Anyway, I/O isn’t a slump on the Vector Pro; the company has been building desktops for a long time and knows which ports people use a lot. It includes three USB-A ports, separate headphone and microphone jacks, USB-C, microSD, Ethernet and HDMI. In reality, it could serve in place of a gaming desktop if you so choose.

While that’s not every RTX 3080 laptop, these are some of the best you can find on the market today. Be sure to also bring a laptop cooler so you can work at maximum efficiency.
